Press release: Browser game Data Clash: Learn data protection while playing

(Berlin, May 9th, 2018) The so-called GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) comes into force on May 25th, 2018 and, in naturally rather cumbersome 11 chapters and 99 articles, has a lot of changes ready for citizens and companies alike. The browser game "Data Clash" conveys the new rights for consumers and the competent handling of their data in a shorter and more understandable way. "Data Clash. The Data Protection Game” is one of the offerings in the “Your Data. Your rights.” In addition to explanatory videos and easy-to-understand overview and background texts, users on this special information portal of Digitale Gesellschaft eV can also learn via game which rights the new EU data protection law grants them. ´The overall project “Your data. Your rights.” is supported by the Federal Ministry of Justice and Consumer Protection (BMJV).

Data Clash was designed and developed by the specialists for educational games and gamification Ijsfontein Interactive Media in cooperation with Target Games GmbH and Zeppelin Studio. "Young people in particular are often very careless with their personal data," says Dr. Martin Thiele-Schwez, game designer of Data Clash. “We want to show the new rights consumers have in a way that is easy to understand. In a playful way, we have depicted this in the form of a tower defense game in which the users compete in six levels against unwelcome data collectors, e.g. E.g. e-mail providers or online shops, and at the same time be informed about the basics of data protection.”
